"From 1 October, beers over 7.5% ABV have to pay High Strength Beer Duty (HSBD) on top of the general beer duty. This goes for beers made in the UK and also those imported into the UK. It’ll be an additional 25% onto what the brewery already pays in duty.
Also coming in on 1 October is the two-third glass, which will then be a legal measure. I like this introduction a lot and I hope pubs get on board with it. The two-third glass will be perfect for drinking beers over 7.5%, if you are wealthy enough to be able to afford to buy one..."

"Wie das ZDF berichtet, stellt eine kleine aber zunehmend wachsende Zahl an Braumeistern das deutsche Reinheitsgebot von 1516 in Frage. Die Bier-Rebellen proben die beispielsweise die Zugabe von Obst, Kürbiskernen, Kaffee, Kakao, Hibiskus, Rosmarin und Chilli, um die Geschmacksvielfalt beim Bier in Deutschland zu erhöhen. Dabei gehe es keineswegs darum, Chemikalienbieren Tür und Tor zu öffnen. Die Befürworter einer neuen Offenheit plädieren vielmehr dafür, alle Formen von natürlichen und naturbelassenen Zutaten zum Brauprozess zuzulassen. Stabilisatoren, Konservierungsstoffe und sonstige chemische Zusätze sollten weiterhin verboten bleiben."

"Die Bierkultur in den USA hat sich verändert", sagt Greg Koch, Besitzer von Stone Brewing. "Die großen Marken stagnieren oder erleben sogar rückläufige Umsätze. Wir dagegen wachsen." Doch will Koch auf keinen Fall ein Bier für die breite Masse brauen. "Wenn unser Bier allen schmecken würde, hätte es nicht die Qualität, die wir wollen. Dann würden wir etwas falsch machen."

Beer’s black market: "Last month, for example, San Diego’s Stone Brewing Co., whose rare Vertical Epic beers are sometimes listed on eBay for more than $1,000 per bottle, began selling the first beer in its new Quingenti Millilitre series via a lottery system, and Stone has announced that people who try to resell it will be banned from future drawings. “We have involuntarily been a part of the eBay aftermarket for many years,” says Greg Koch, Stone’s co-founder and chief executive. “This is the first time we’ve come out, laid it on the table and said very point-blank, ‘Please, do not resell.’”"
